Is Capoeira for you? |
|
What skills do you need to play capoeira? We really believe that anyone can play capoeira. Those with a background in dance or music, or with a good grasp of rhythm will find that they learn certain aspects quickly. Those with a background in sport, specifically martial arts, will find the physical side easier to master. However, those with no rhythm, no fitness, no co-ordination, no flexibility, no strength will also learn they might just do so a little more slowly :-) Every individual finds their own style of play; it is the lack of rigidity within the sport that makes it so special. Individual strengths and weaknesses, and differing philosophies allow every game of Capoeira to be unique.

What will you get from playing capoeira? Capoeira provides an opportunity to build fitness, specifically; strength, flexibility, power, balance, co-ordination and agility. However, capoeira is more than this. Steeped in culture and tradition, capoeiristas slowly learn about Afro-Brazilian culture, pick up some Portuguese, learn rhythm and may learn to play the instruments that are central to the Capoeira game. It is also a great chance to meet interesting people. Capoeiristas always enjoy socializing and having a Brazilian teacher means socializing will nearly always involve beer and food. If you are new to capoeira search for it on you tube and watch some of the games... |
